Organic Peddler LLC is a compost production company run by Guy Seno in the Chicagoland area. Mr. Seno has been working in the horticultural world for around 40 years, with a commitment to organic agriculture and land preservation. Mr. Seno came across PittMoss a few years ago and started doing tests in containers and in the field. Even though the quality of his compost mix is exceptional, he stated, the addition of PittMoss fibers makes the results that much more phenomenal.
According to Mr. Seno, “The absorption factors that PittMoss has appear to hold in place many of the organic nutrients from our compost for much longer periods of time than we’ve previously experienced.” From a technical point of view, Mr. Seno added that the aeration of PittMoss is particularly beneficial. “The oxygen intrusion and carbon dioxide ventilation really help dramatically in building the best of structure to the compost finished product.” The Organic Peddler is currently being set up to process 8,000 yards of material, but the sky’s the limit.
Mr. Seno also elaborated on the industry and typical materials used in operations like his. In his tenure, he has seen a steep decline in the quality of peat moss, which is traditionally used to structure and aerate composts and soil blends. He added that “not only is mining of peat moss a bad thing, we’ve come to realize PittMoss is a great alternative…and with our results that we’ve gotten over the last few years of these combinations…ours [finished compost] is phenomenal, and nobody’s come back to say anything negative whatsoever.” With truckloads of PittMoss headed to the Organic Peddler this year, their customers can expect another year of phenomenal material and sustainable growth!
